Italy arrived in initially spot, followed by Greece, Spain, Japan and India, while Slovakia positioned 50th—the last country outlined in a graphic shared to Twitter—and Norway positioned 95th in the all round rankings.

Twitter consumers reacted with shock and some mockery to TasteAtlas’ rankings and remarks continued to pour in on Friday and early Saturday morning as men and women questioned why the U.S. and England ranked so substantial.

“This is a checklist you’d appear up with if you’d by no means eaten meals,” wrote weather writer Dave Vetter.

Journalist Lucas Faraldo Knopf, crafting in Portuguese, tweeted: “United States and England not being in the relegation zone of this listing IS A Crime.”

Twitter user GuiXimenes, a systems engineer, wrote: “US above Brazil HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.”

Brazil was ranked 12th on TasteAtlas’ list, guiding international locations such as Greece, Spain and Peru.

French radio presenter Emeric Berco tweeted: “United States in advance of France, that was adequate for me. Whatever.”

“#8 becoming on there indicates this poll is inherently flawed and not to be taken very seriously,” tweeted Jay K. Cagatay of TIME journal, sharing an additional tweet demonstrating what was explained as a “Snickers salad.”

Some Twitter consumers questioned why England was on the listing at all, with reporter Amrita Khalid creating: “Hello, I consider there is certainly been an error. England is on this checklist for some rationale.”

Replying to Khalid, Thomas Sully, a 16-12 months-aged university student, wrote: “Sure. and the US appears to be not just on the list, but superior on the list.”

Khalid replied: “The US definitely shouldn’t rank in excess of France, but I will let it since building the French mad is humorous.”

On its website, TasteAtlas offers a checklist of “best rated foodstuff” from the U.S. That record involves wild Alaska salmon, Texas brisket sandwich, Florida oranges and honeycrisp apples but the site also notes that the most popular American dish is the burger.

TasteAtlas describes the burger as the “quintessential American food items.”

When it will come to English cuisine, TasteAtlas’ record contains Worcestershire sauce, cheddar cheese, Cornish clotted cream and sticky toffee pudding.

“Every yr when we publish the listing, there are a good deal of angry persons, even calls from embassies. We realized to live with it,” TasteAtlas told Newsweek in a statement on Saturday.

“Let’s make clear our methodology. We are a web page committed to traditional community dishes with a databases of 15,000+ dishes and ingredients. Through the calendar year, folks level these foods (not cuisines) in our databases,” the assertion explained.

“Some votes are identified by our procedure as invalid,” TasteAtlas said, citing “nationalist votes: people today from 1 place give higher marks to their dishes and reduced marks to their neighbors. We really don’t count this kind of votes.”

“At the conclusion of the 12 months, we take the regular of the ideal-rated dishes in each kitchen (so that France is not introduced down by frogs, for case in point). And that’s it,” the assertion went on.

“No just one likes that listing, but it is a reflection of the legitimate voices of serious people today. That’s why we wrote, ‘don’t loathe us we are just counting votes,'” TasteAtlas said.
